Our Strategy & Resources team is the backbone to the Employment & Skills Service providing specialist support across several functions, including data and intelligence, programme and project management, governance, marketing and communications and finance. The team and service work collaboratively across the council, and with employers, other partners and stakeholders to improve employment, education and skills outcomes for residents, through SkillsHouse Bradford.

Job Introduction

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Data Analyst to join the Strategy and Resources Team in Employment and Skills. The ideal candidate will have strong data analysis skills, academic experience of statistics, economics, computer science or similar and, crucially, be determined to apply these in improving outcomes for Bradford’s residents.

This is a developmental role: you do not need to arrive with all the answers. What matters most is your curiosity, judgement, and ability to learn quickly. With the right support, you will build experience in data analysis, research, project management and collaborative working, developing the skills needed to operate confidently in a complex local government environment.

With appropriate supervision and mentoring, you will:

  • Assist in undertaking analysis of data, information and intelligence to support the work of the service and partnership.
  • Support with meeting our statutory and contractual data and reporting responsibilities.
  • Develop reporting and visualisation tools and dashboards.
  • Manage defined pieces of work or small projects, planning tasks, tracking progress and meeting agreed deadlines with oversight.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners, contributing positively to shared work and coordinating inputs when needed.
  • Build confidence in a local government context, developing an understanding of governance, legislation and organisational priorities over time.
  • Respond constructively to feedback, learn quickly, and steadily increase independence as skills and judgement develop.

Progression through the role will be supported through structured performance reviews and training and development within the council’s graduate programme.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic graduate who is keen to learn, contribute and grow. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelors or Higher degree in a numerate subject (achieved or predicted) that demonstrates analytical thinking and an ability to work with data, information and intelligence.
  • A clear interest in public policy, public services and how decisions are made.
  • The ability to write clearly and logically, with experience of structured written work, for example through academic study.
  • Some experience of research, analysis or project-based work gained through study, work or placements.
  • The ability to develop strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills, and an organised and flexible approach to managing workload.
  • A willingness to learn, respond positively to feedback, and work in line with Bradford Council’s Brilliant, Bold and Balanced values.

Qualifications required:

Achieved or predicted to achieve:

An honours degree in a numerate subject containing taught statistical content (e.g. Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Psychology, Geography).

OR

A higher degree, for example MSc or PhD, in a subject containing formal statistical or analytical training.
