We're looking for a proactive and organised Salon Technician to play a vital role in our vibrant Hair, Beauty and Barbering provision. Working closely with staff, students and clients, you'll help create an outstanding learning environment by preparing commercial salons and spa facilities, managing stock and resources, and supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of our industry-standard training spaces. This is an exciting opportunity to use your sector expertise to inspire learners, contribute to exceptional student experiences, and help transform lives through education.

Responsibilities include:

  • Day to day supervision of the commercial salons and the spa including the laundry from the salons.
  • Order and manage materials and resources needed for the curriculum area, keeping inventory checks
  • To maintain appropriate records and inventories for stock control purposes
  • Prepare learning spaces and salons ready for learners and clients, including the laundry from the salons.
  • Promote commercial offers to broaden client base
  • Support tutors and students in preparing and maintaining the College salons and SPA for lessons and client sessions for various courses.
  • Carry out relevant H&S checks for the curriculum area
  • To operate the salon reception and supporting students when they are working on reception duties. Also, any other required associated duties
  • To carry out duties commensurate with the post of Technician, responsible to the lecturers and Curriculum Area Manger (CAM)
  • To implement and promote College regulations, policies and procedures.
  • To assist the teaching staff and CAM with costings and ordering equipment when specified.
  • Additional duties relating to the post not mentioned above, to be negotiated with the Curriculum Area Manager
  • Support the College management in all health and safety matters and take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
  • To participate and promote recruitment and marketing activities as specified by your line manager or Head of Department
  • To participate actively in the maintenance and promotion of close links with employers and training agencies
  • To undertake additional duties that may be required commensurate with the level of responsibility of the post.

Education & Training

  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale
  • Level 2 Qualification in Hair, Beauty or Barbering

Experience

  • Ability to utilise Information Technology and Information, Learning and Technology for administrative purposes.
  • Recent industrial or commercial experience in an area appropriate to the job specification
  • Proven ability to carry out risk assessments in line with COSHH and other statutory requirements.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
  • Awareness of the Hair & Beauty industry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
